HoldEmPrivacy policy
This policy covers the HoldEm app for iPhone, iPad and Android ("the app") and these HoldEm pages on nfc.cool. HoldEm is made by NFC.cool ("we", "us"), which is responsible for it under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What stays on your device
The app keeps a few things on the device you use, so you do not have to set them again:
- the name you play under and the look you chose (card back, frame, reactions and so on);
- on the device that hosts a table: the table's settings and the state of the game (names, seats, stacks and the current hand), so a game can continue if the app restarts;
- which cosmetic items you have bought, as confirmed by the App Store or Google Play.
None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it.
What travels between the devices at your table
The device that hosts a table and the phones that join it talk to each other directly over your local Wi-Fi network. To play, they exchange the players' names, seats, actions, reactions and chosen looks, and each player's own cards go only to that player's phone. The app finds the table on your network with Bonjour (iPhone and iPad) or network service discovery (Android). Nothing of this passes through the internet or reaches us.
Permissions
- Local network: to find a table and to play with the other devices on your Wi-Fi.
- Camera (optional): only to scan a table's QR code when you join. The picture is read on your device to find the code and is not stored or sent anywhere.
- Vibration (Android): for the tap you feel when your cards land or it is your turn.
Purchases
Cosmetic items are bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play. They handle the payment under their own privacy policies; we never see your payment details. The app only asks the store on your device which items you own.
Crash reports and statistics from Apple and Google
If you have agreed in your device's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple or Google may give us crash reports and anonymous usage statistics they collect themselves. They do not identify you to us. You can turn this off in your device's privacy settings at any time.
These web pages
These pages set no cookies, use no analytics and load their fonts from nfc.cool itself. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages; like any web server, GitHub processes your IP address to deliver the pages, under GitHub's privacy statement.
Children
HoldEm is a simulated card game meant for adults (18+). It is not directed at children, and since it collects no personal data, it collects none from children either.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you from the app, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. You still have all rights under the GDPR and similar laws, including the right to ask us what we hold and to complain to a data protection authority (in Portugal, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados). Changes
If HoldEm ever starts to handle personal data, we will update this policy before it does and change the date above.
